Texas State Tops UNC, Remains Undefeated
By Eric Wasser
Texas State University – San Marcos remained unbeaten at World Cup 8 with a 150-110* victory over the University of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC)
While UNC kept the game in range surprisingly long, ultimately its notoriously physical play style was not enough for it to hang with the Southwest juggernaut Texas State. Both teams traded driving buckets early, keeping the game interesting. However, eventually Eric Reyes and company were able to chip away at the Tar Heels and build up a 70 point lead with snitch on-pitch. Ultimately, UNC made the catch to bring the score to 150-110* and salvage energy going into bracket play.
Texas State now sits as the lone 5-0 team in Flight One and will inevitably be a top seed going into bracket play. UNC will come out of the flight as a top 4-1 team with wins over two other 4-1 teams (Michigan Quidditch and Michigan State University Spartan Quidditch), and will most likely have a bye into the Round of 16.
